Who we are: The Department of Infectious Disease and Tropical Medicine at Heidelberg University Hospital has a clinical and research mandate, embedded within a research-active university campus that includes the Heidelberg Institute for Global Health. Our research group (www.denkglobaldx.org) brings together an interdisciplinary team working across diagnostic innovation, clinical and implementation research, mathematical modelling, data science, and health-economic evaluation. We collaborate with leading academic institutions (including Harvard, UCSF, Johns Hopkins), global research networks (R2D2, Smart4TB), organisations such as WHO, and industry partners. We are seeking a motivated Clinical Trial Manager (CTM, 100%) to lead, manage and coordinate the conduct and reporting of multicentric studies across Africa and Asia, within the R2D2 TB diagnostic research network (https://www.r2d2tbnetwork.org/) in accordance with ICH-GCP and applicable regulations.

This is a fixed-term position (12 months) with the intention of extend.

Your Tasks

• Lead cross-functional study coordination: serve as the primary liaison across the adult and pediatric cohorts, connecting the relevant R2D2 TB Network teams (Technology, GCP Compliance, Data, Clinical Support), and ensuring aligned communication and accountability across all parties.
• Drive overall study management: oversee study timelines, track progress against milestones, and proactively identify, document, and escalate operational risks and issues with timely mitigation plans.
• Ensure regulatory and quality compliance: oversee adherence to applicable ethics standards, GCP requirements, and the R2D2 TB Network quality management framework, including internal policies and SOPs, across all study activities; ensure protocol deviations and quality findings are identified, documented, and escalated with appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
• Support GCP/ISO 14155 & ISO 20916 compliance and quality management: own the development, review, and continuous improvement of study procedures, SOPs, and QMS documents, and systems that keep data management and access GCP-compliant. Partner with the GCP lead to design these systems, and coordinate with the cohort leads to operationalize them at the study level. Drive process improvement initiatives and help embed a culture of quality across the network.
• Oversee reporting and knowledge management: direct the preparation of study reports, regulatory submissions, and internal documentation, and ensure study records are maintained accurately and in line with data management and archiving requirements.

Your Profile

• Postgraduate qualification in a relevant field (e.g., Public Health, Epidemiology, Biomedical Science, or equivalent) and at least 3 years’ demonstrated experience in managing international, GCP-compliant clinical studies; experience in diagnostic accuracy studies for infectious diseases is an advantage.
• Expert knowledge of GxP (GCP, GLP, GCLP) and a thorough understanding of the ethical and regulatory framework governing human subjects research; familiarity with ISO 20916 and ISO 14155 is an asset.
• Sound understanding of infectious diseases, particularly TB, including relevant diagnostic tools, public health context, and evolving trends in the field.
• Proven ability to coordinate complex, multi-site international studies: skilled in tracking deliverables, managing competing priorities, and maintaining clear documentation and audit trails.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal English); culturally responsive, collaborative by nature, and able to build effective working relationships across diverse, international teams.
